Back yard fountain
Yes we really did have a wet winter but all the plants enjoyed it after years of drought. The roses are fantastic this year. I have in excess of 250 roses. Well actually I quit counting at 250 and have probably planted another 100 since then. I love it when they all start blooming in the spring. Well truly I love all the flowers.

Sand at 4 days with mom Delight
SAND was born on 4-15-17. Weighting in at 15.4 pounds and I think she will be Bay Black or Dark Brown when shorn. She is the result of breeding Delight who is medium brown with a grey back ground and Spinosa who is black. Really nice girl with a beautiful head.

Spice at 6 days old
Wow another girl. That's three in a row. Having said that I have probably just jinxed the rest of the year to boys. That's all I've had for the last 3 years. It took a few days to come up with a name for this high spirited and inquisitive little girl. Well really not so little she was born at 20.8 pounds. Her mom is Cosette and probably one of the smallest alpacas on the ranch and had one of the larger crias born here. She is full sister to Delgado who looked like he was a medium rose grey until we sheared him this year and he is actually a medium silver grey. I believe Spice will also be a medium silver grey. Her dam is Cosette and her sire is Spinosa.

What a wonderful delivery on the only non-rainy day this week. Arapaho Bisturi's Delight gave birth to Arapaho Spinosa's Afternoon Delight. Born around noon on 4-15-2017 at 15.4 pounds. She was a little cold at first but is up and playing with the other crias. She is less than an hour old in these pictures.

Asia at 3 months
Here is the much awaited first cria of the season. Asia has broken the boy pattern and hopefully has started the new phase of female crias. The last three year all the crias have been male. They have all been outstanding but you can only have so many studs. Asia is a medium rose gray female out of India and Vantaggio. She is very crimpy and very dense. I think we'll redo this breeding.

Calif Dreamin with True making friends
What a wonderful day. We had over 600 visitors. They were able to walk through the pastures and visit with the alpacas. We were giving talks and Steve and Lin from Lassen View Alpacas were here to help and talk alpacas to the attendees. Fiber Artist were demonstrating spinning, weaving, carding and bobbin lace. Hot dogs, chips and water were available as well as wine tasting for the adults with a big thanks to my neighbor Matson's Vineyard. We had a Kid's of all ages activity area where you could learn to make fiber ball, color an alpaca face mask. The alpacas were fat and happy after all the pellets they got all day long. In all it was a great day. If you missed it put it on your calendar the LAST Saturday in September 30th 2017.
